ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS TRAINING PROGRAM FOR SPRAYER OPERATIONS
Date added: 28/01/05 |
Agronomy specialists ProCam has started the second wave of its national sprayer operator and environmental awareness training days this week.
Designed to tie in with the Crop Protection Association’s H2OK initiative, focusing on efficient application, sprayer set-up and water protection, the first series of days have already catered for over 600 farmers. ProCam expect around 1000 farmers to have attended by the end of the program.
“Our aim is to inform growers of the latest thinking on optimum spray applications and how to achieve these with minimum impact on the environment,” explains ProCam’s Chris Sprigg.
“The courses cover all aspects of sprayer operation from identifying pesticides most likely to enter water courses, to choosing the right product for the job as well as understanding the risks associated with soil type, topography and application timing.”
Over the next three months, the courses will cover a further 20 venues up and down the country with information tailored to individual localities through ProCam’s 4cast predictive agronomy system.”
“Although the principles are the same across the country, the type and amount of pesticides found in water varies from region to region reflecting the type of agriculture. Understanding which products can cause problems in an individual area is an essential first step in managing pesticide use efficiently.
“The Crop Protection Association’s aim is to deliver a 30% reduction in pesticide residues in surface water and we are keen to support this initiative to promote better farming and a better environment,” Chris Sprigg concludes.
Further information on venues and dates for the training days can be obtained by calling ProCam on 01763 261592. |
