Agronomy firm appoints expert to help local farmers with varieties, crop protection and crop nutrition16 September 2016

As arable farmers face a number of challenges, leading agronomy firm ProCam has appointed an experienced crop variety, crop protection and crop nutrition expert to help growers around Lincoln, south west Lincolnshire and north Nottinghamshire with technical aspects of getting the best from their crops. Danny Baker brings with him 18 years’ experience working in the crop protection, plant breeding and crop nutrition fields.

“As certain pests and diseases develop resistance to traditional crop protection approaches, I can see that farming will increasingly have to use a three-pronged strategy to protect crops,” explains Mr Baker.

“This will involve underpinning traditional approaches of crop protection and resistant varieties with even greater attention on achieving better crop health through improved plant nutrition.

“There is a great deal of science behind some of the crop nutrition and plant bio-stimulant treatments available to farmers. It’s a bit like humans – we consume the right foods to keep us healthy. In a similar way, if you can keep plants healthy, they have better resilience to pests and diseases.

“By joining ProCam, I hope to bring my combined experience in crop varieties, crop protection and crop nutrition to help growers integrate all three together in the best possible ways.”
